Why Reader Ready?

Introducing Elisa Wolfe

Proofreading requires a different set of skills than writing. Which is why even the most gifted writer can have trouble proofreading and editing his or her own work. Yet you can’t get your script through professional readers if it’s riddled with typos, repetitive words, dense paragraphs and unappealing sentence structure.

So how do you get your script Reader Ready once the story is on the page? Just send it to me. My name is Elisa Wolfe, and I've been a professional proofreader/editor/ advertising copywriter for over 15 years.

I’m also an aspiring screenwriter, which is why I think I’m uniquely qualified to edit your script. A well-meaning proofreader, unfamiliar with the structure of screenwriting, might turn your authentic dialogue into the most wooden and stiff soliloquy ever written. But as a screenwriter, I know when to let a preposition dangle or a “yeah” pass as a full-fledged sentence.

Even though I haven't cracked that secret code of a sale yet, I've made some headway in my endeavors as a screenwriter. So I understand the format and how to make a script "readable." My credentials include:

  • I've had a script optioned.
  • The same script was shopped by CAA.
  • I presently have a manager peddling my scripts out in Hollywood.
  • I've placed as a semifinalist or quarterfinalist in quite a few competitions with several scripts.

With all of the competition in screenwriting, your script has to be at its best every time you send it out for a read. Please take a look at the Reader Ready options to find the service that's right for your project.

Why Not Just Provide Coverage?

Reader Ready is not a coverage service. As a writer, I've tried several coverage services to the tune of hundreds and hundreds of dollars.

Some of those services were worth every penny. But some of them charged a lot of money and provided feedback with which I completely disagreed. In fact, with one service, I tested two of their readers with the same script. One gave it a "consider," while the other basically told me to rewrite it from page one. So how do I know who was right?

And that's the thing about coverage - it's completely subjective. Sometimes, you feel like you got your money's worth. And sometimes, you feel like you just paid to have your dreams squashed.

This is where Reader Ready comes into play. It's a service for writers who know they've finally told the right story the right way. The plot and characters are 100% ready for readers. Yet there could be problems with the writing itself.

There's very little that's subjective about my service. I'm here to give you concrete feedback on your writing. Did you mix up the words "there" and "their?" Did you use "you're" for "your?" Have you repeated the same word over and over again to the point of distraction? Do your sentences go on forever? Are you short on white space? Did you use a word that's popular in Australia but has no meaning in America?

By the way, I have found a fantastic consultant, and I run every script by her. I know I'm going to get my money's worth every time, and I feel like my rewrite is done the minute I hang up with her. So if you are looking for story advice, let me know, and I'll refer you to her. You may still want to come back to Reader Ready for a final proofread after you've done your rewrite, but you'll know your story is the one you wanted to tell.
